A new perspective on employment in social entrepreneurship


With the wide participation of stakeholders, a Press Conference and Round Table on the Educational Programme in Social Entrepreneurship took place yesterday, November 12 in Kavala. The project is the result of the cooperation between the Municipality of Gotse Delchev in Bulgaria, SOS Children's Villages, and the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology and aims to enhance the employment of people belonging to vulnerable social groups and residing in the cross-border area of the Program.


Starting the meeting, Ms. Stavroula Malkopoulou, Social Worker at the SOS Children's Villages of Greece, stressed: "The SOS Children's Villages of Greece participate in the SOSEDEE Project in an effort to support and strengthen vulnerable groups in the Eastern Macedonia Region as well as young adults and children who have grown up in SOS Children's Villages. Our goal for the young people who will be trained through the social entrepreneurship program, is to gain knowledge and a new professional perspective".

On his part, Mr. Georgios Theriou, Associate Professor at the Department of Administration and Business of the TEI of Eastern Macedonia Thrace, presented the distance learning program and stated: “The training program that we have developed, offers a comprehensive approach to social entrepreneurship. Provides in a simple and understandable way the most modern knowledge, with the aim of developing the necessary skills for the effective management of social enterprises. By completing the program, participants will have acquired knowledge that will help them set up their own social enterprise or engage in social economy enterprises maximizing the social impact of their actions according to the current challenges of the business environment and reducing the risk of failure."

Mr. Dimitris Kontopidis, Founder of the HUMANE Social Enterprise and Honorary President of the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, participated in the Meeting with a speech, presenting a very successful case study of Social Entrepreneurship for the social inclusion of people with disabilities. "Our vision is to prove that people with disabilities can work, can innovate and also do business. The award-winning "Reaction" project is a characteristic and innovative product for the empowerment of people with disabilities, which breaks the stereotypes by combining design, care and new technologies."

The Training Program for Social Entrepreneurship has a total duration of 5 weeks: 4 weeks of e-learning & 1 week of experiential training. It includes two training cycles that will be implemented in November 2018 and Spring 2019 with 22 video lectures, supportive educational material, creative discussions, business games, case studies and skills development workshops. The main criterion is that the participants should come from the cross-border region (Regions of Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kartali and Haskovo) of the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria 2014 - 2020. The selection of participants will be based on the order of priority.

Furthermore, on the same day (from 14:00 to 18:00), an informative action regarding the Educational Programme will take place at the main square of Kavala.
